November Story Circle: Canadian Storytelling Night

November 14 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$5.00

Join us for a special edition of our Monthly Storytelling Circle celebrating Canadian Storytelling Night! Featuring Larry Brazil and Dave Penny!

Wednesday, November 14 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm
at Erin’s Pub on Water Street
Admission: $5 (cash only)

**Please note, there will be no Story Circle as usual on Tuesday, November 13th**

The cold weather is setting in and that makes it extra nice to cozy up with a bunch of fabulous people and listen to some fabulous stories! As this is our special Canadian Storytelling Night edition of the Story Circle, we will have two featured tellers in addition to our Open Mic! Larry Brazil joins us from Renews with some great songs and stories. Second featured teller TBA!

Canadian Storytelling Night is a growing event supported by Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada, an opportunity to share Canadian stories, a time to gather at the turn of the year when the nights grow longer and colder, and a companion to World Storytelling Day in March.

Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned teller, we welcome you to share you tales during our open mic! And as always, we need warm and lovely listeners. Whether you are there to listen, to tell or to gather up your courage to tell a story, we’d love to see you.

ABOUT OUR FEATURED TELLERS

DAVE PENNY

Dave Penny has been a steady presence on the local folk scene as a composer of songs that are truly unique to Newfoundland and Labrador. With his engaging stage personality, and a style that is entirely his own, he has been a key figure in resurgence in popularity of Newfoundland comic songs.

Dave’s most recent recording—All Turned Around—has been nominated for a 2017 MusicNL award for Traditional Artist of the Year and a 2017 Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Singer of the Year. The album promises to strengthen his position as one of Newfoundland and Labradors most fun and diverse entertainers, with its razorsharp commentary on songs like Chase The Ace and #darkNL.

LARRY BRAZIL

Larry Brazil was born and raised in Renews, down the Southern Shore. He moved to Mount Pearl in the late 1990s, but his ties to Renews remain strong. Larry has been playing music for as long as he can remember. He began writing songs in 2004, and has enjoyed playing and telling stories around the Avalon since he retired two years ago.
