The Honourable Joan Marie J. Aylward, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, and The Honourable Carl R. Thompson cordially invite you to an afternoon of storytelling, featuring St. John’s Storytelling’s presentation:
“Strong-Willed Women: A Century of Women’s Suffrage in Newfoundland”
Hosted by Karen Carroll, Storyteller and President of St. John’s Storytelling, the event will feature contributions from Terry Bishop Stirling, Professor of History at MUN; Marion Frances White, a storyteller, author, filmmaker, poet, biographer, and journalist who shares women’s stories; and Anita Best, a Traditional Newfoundland Storyteller and singer from Merasheen.
The afternoon will highlight the inspiring stories of women who faced immense challenges to secure the right to vote in Newfoundland, along with those who supported them. As we mark this significant anniversary, we honor the resilience, determination, and lasting impact of women in Newfoundland before, during, and after the campaign for suffrage.
St. John’s Storytelling extends heartfelt thanks to Their Honours and the staff at Government House for making this unique event possible.
