About our host, Anita:
Anita Best started her singing career in the 1970s with the Trad-Rock band Figgy Duff. Since then, her warm rich voice has been heard in festivals and concerts across Canada and the United States as well as the UK and France. Although she has worked as a folklorist, a broadcaster, a teacher, and a community animator, se’s probably best known as a collector and interpreter of traditional Newfoundland songs and stories. Anita works primarily alone or with Sandy Morris or Pamela Morgan.
She has contributed to films and other musical recordings, but is best known for these albums: The Colour Of Amber, a collaboration with Pamela Morgan, was released in 1993. Crosshanded, a collection of twelve songs for solo voice, and Some Songs, a collaboration with Sandy Morris, was released in 2018. The Tin Table: Tales and Ballads from Newfoundland was released in 2023 by Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada.
