Join us October 14th at 7pm for our October Story Circle with Paul Dean!
All performers will receive a complimentary beverage from the Battery Cafe. $5 cover at the door. Please go early, as seating fills up quickly!
A bit about Paul:
Paul Dean is a geologist and writer from Newfoundland with a strong interest in public outreach in Science and the Arts. He has Bachelors and Masters degrees from Memorial University and served as a senior government official with the provincial government for 25 years. He was the Executive Director of
the Johnson GeoCentre prior to his retirement in 2010. He has co-authored and written many publications on the geology and mineral resources of Newfoundland and Labrador and presented on these topics locally, nationally and internationally.
He started writing short stories and songs for presentation at The March Hare Festival in 1999 and continued until 2016. One of these stories was published in The Newfoundland Quarterly in 2003 and another in The March Hare Anthology published by Breakwater Books in 2007. A collection of his short stories “Come On With The Punt” was published by Pedlar Press in 2016. He has collaborated with visual artist/printmaker Alan Stein in the production of a Broadside “Santa’s From The Bight” based on one of his songs.
Paul Dean has been a strong advocate for traditional Newfoundland music and dance and has performed regularly at The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival and similar events throughout our province. He has served on The Advisory Board of Fogo Island Arts and is a Board Member of The Crows Nest Officers Club in St. John’s. He is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal and is an Honorary Member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIMM),
Newfoundland and Labrador Branch.
