A bit about our hosts:
David Buley is Associate Professor of Music Education in the Faculty of Education at Memorial University and the Director of Music at St. Mary-the Virgin Anglican Church in St. John’s. He has a happy career of choral directing, singing and general musicing and is consistently humbled through his work and play with music as a means of social equilibrium, especially in prisons. A Co-Artistic Director of HarbourVOICES! International Festival of Collective Singing Traditions, and Co-Director of The Singing Network, David is also a certified practitioner of Jaques-Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Married and devoted to Jan, David is also owned by a vibrant border-collie, Nelllie, and enjoys singing outdoors with the largest choir on earth. www.dbuley.com
Addicted to teaching and learning, Jan Buley shares her love for literacies and drama education with teacher candidates in Memorial University’s Faculty of Education. Jan’s Ph.D. from the Steinhardt School, New York University, examined the assumptions, beliefs and contradictions of family engagement in schools. She believes that curiosity and finding beauty are necessary for survival and she is passionate about celebrating the voices of those who are marginalized. She is enormously grateful for the cooking skills of her partner David. They are both happily owned by Nelllie, a border(less) collie and two cats who, (on most days), wish that the dog would simply disappear into thin air.
